  • Protein is one of three primary macronutrients that provide energy to human body, along with fats and carbohydrates. They are comprised of a number of amino acids that are essential to proper body function and serve as building blocks of body issue.
There are 20 different amino acids in total. While some of these can be made in the body, there are 9 essential amino acids that people can only obtain from dietary sources. Foods that provide all of the essential amino acids are called complete protein sources and can include animal as well as some plant-based sources.
A diet rich in high-quality clean protein supports good health, muscle recovery and growth. All proteins are not created equal however, and if you are vegan, vegetarian, or simply cutting back on animal products in your diet it can be challenging to get the quality protein you need. Which is where a daily protein smoothie makes a ton of sense. In less time than it takes to make a bowl of cereal you can blend up a great tasting protein smoothie that will keep you energized and satisfied for hours – while also helping your body build and repair lean muscle tissue in your body.

    OMG This is chocolatey yummy

It is hard to believe this fine powder has so much great nutrition and tastes so terrific. I blend it with kale, cucumber, 1/2C of berries (lately black currants from our own no-spray garden), ice cubes, 3 tbsp of a combo hemp hearts/pumpkin/chia/sunflower seeds, almond milk, water and a chunk of organic ginger. There is no better way to start the day; clean protein keeps me going easily till noon for a low glycemic diet. Makes it all worthwhile. Thanks so much.

    Great tasting!

Was really happy to find a vegan protein powder with monk fruit as I can't tolerate stevia. Also a Canadian company is a bonus, saves the costly US exchange and duties. I bought the chocolate flavour, and the ads claim this can be eaten with just water like a pudding, so that's how I tried it. While it wasn't bad that way (I'm very sensitive to protein powders and hate the taste of most even when mixed in smoothies), I'd probably add some cocoa to make it a bit richer next time. In a smoothie it's good as is. Happy to have found this!

Thank you so much for sharing this Theresa - our plant proteins were a labour of love for sure, so we are delighted that you are enjoying it!

    Worst Tasting Protein Powder

I was so excited when I found Niyama was sweetened with monk fruit and all of the positive reviews had me hopeful! I got one of the chocolate and one of the vanilla. Sad to say I tried the chocolate in three ways (in almond milk, in yogurt, and in a smoothie); all were unpalatable! In the yogurt, it tasted like raw flour. In the smoothie with berries, it tasted like dirt. Unfortunately, the company does not accept opened product returns, so I will be throwing out the open chocolate and returning the unopened vanilla. I have been using plant-based protein powder for over a decade and I’m sad to say this is my least favourite tasting protein powder I’ve ever had.

I'm so sorry our plant protein was not to your taste Nicole. It has a lot of fans but taste is so very personal. Thank you for returning your Vanilla protein, wishing you all the best in finding a plant protein that you truly enjoy!
